Abreast in Australia Update
News from Downunder!
Volunteer in Focus – Craig Walton
Craig is a paddling supporter based in Brisbane, Queensland
I started dragon boating in Canberra in 1997 and, after moving to Brisbane in 1999, I joined Brisbane River Dragons (BRD), a sports club. My involvement with Dragons Abreast after I met Janelle Gamble a director of Dragons Abreast Australia. My wife Christiana and I helped out placing pink ladies on a grassy mound as part of the Field of Women held in Brisbane in 2001.
It was an amazing day and I’ve been supporting various pink lady activities since, activities which has included me shaving my head for 2005 National Titles and racing a wheelie bin (rubbish bin on wheels!) and pulling a truck in the St George show while wearing pink braids.
I’ll be your on-water event coordinator for the Abreast in Australia regatta at Caloundra, where I look forward, along with many of our Brisbane River Dragons and Missabittatitti and other club paddlers, in organising a great regatta for you.
I hope to meet as many ladies as possible on the training days and during the racing and encourage you to all come along and enjoy your stay.
Thanks to the many volunteers who help make BC paddling races happen!
